They are to be called The Dharma Jewel Platform Sutra

“They are to be called The Dharma Jewel Platform Sutra. Protect and transmit them in order to take humankind across. If you speak according to them, you will be speaking the Orthodox Dharma. I will explain the Dharma to you, but I will not transmit the robe, because your roots of faith are pure and ripe. You certainly have no doubts and are worthy of the great Work. According to the meaning of the transmission verse of the First Patriarch Bodhidharma, the robe should not be transmitted.”

The robe is not transmitted due to the robe will become one more hindrance to be let go of ?

    Kindly advise.

    Thank You

Melvin, I don’t know the answer to that, but if I had to go on my own understanding I would say you have the right idea, but I will find out for sure from a knowing adviser _/\_

It might also be just the fact that the robe could be stolen, or that the robe will “give away” the Patriarch that needs his identity hidden until the right time for the Patriarch to teach the Dharma.

May the sound of the bell penetrate deep into the cosmos. Even in the darkest spots living beings are able to hear it clearly. So that all suffering in them cease. Understanding comes to their heart, and they transcend the path of sorrow and death. The universal dharma door is already open; the sound of the rising tide is already heard clearly. The miracle happens. A beautiful child appears in the heart of the lotus flower. One single drop of this compassionate water is enough to bring back the refreshing spring to our mountains and rivers. Listening to the bell I feel the afflictions in me dissolve. My mind is calm, my body relaxed. A smile is born on my lips. Following the sound of the bell, my breath brings me back to the safe island of mindfulness. In the garden of my heart, the flowers of peace bloom beautifully.- Thich Nhat Hanh
